Birds, Birds, Birds
Winged things in all forms are very close to our hearts and at this time of year we urge you to please feed the birds! Cold weather is back and birds die if they can't get enough to eat. Our friends at the BTO (http://www.bto.org) tell us that after the cold winter last year, there were 27 percent fewer robins - so one in four robins must have died. What do robins and most other birds like ... ?
The Fairies particularly recommend Lard. It gives them lots of energy. That's Lard with anything tasty you can put into it - like a bit of bird seed or nuts or crumbs from cake or bread, or bits of fruit, raisins, sultanas and so on.
Then squish it into lumps about the size of a tennis ball and put it somewhere the birds can find it but where dogs can't ! Wedging it in a bush, or up a tree or squishing it flat on your bird table so it doesn't roll off, are all good.
We wish you a happy festive midwinter season, and hope you'll remember the birds.
Thanks for all your support in 2010
Fairyland Trust
P.S. All paying Supporters today received their lovely mid-winter colour newsletter with a guide on how to make a Magic Wand, an interview with our Wandmaker and advice from the Trolls, plus a progress report on all our work this past season. Paying Supporters keep us going and without them the Fairyland Trust would simply
cease to exist. If you can afford 3 pounds a month and would like to join please email fran@fairylandtrust.org. Remember all new supporters receive one of special kits for free.
